Jagatsinghpur is a town and a municipality in Jagatsinghpur district in the Indian state of Odisha. It is also the headquarters of the Jagatsinghpur district. It got the recognition as a new district on 1st April 1993.

The place was converted from Hariharpur to Jagatsinghpur after the name of Jagat Singh since 1786. Consequent to the bifurcation of old Cuttack District into four new districts, the Jagatsinghpur District was created on 1st April 1993. The new district was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Biju Pattnaik in an auspicious ceremony.

ABOUT DISTRICT

Enriched with glorious cultural heritage Jagatsinghpur district formed on 01.04.1993 vide Government Notification No.14218/R dated 27.03.1993 and EOG No.459 dated 01.04.1993. Before that, it was a part of the erstwhile Cuttack district, subsequently which divided into four different districts for administrative convenience. Jagatsinghpur district is surrounded by Bay of Bengal in the East, Cuttack district in the West, Kendrapada district in the North and Puri district in the South.

    District Police

    • Jagatsinghpur became a Police District in the year 1993. Earlier it was a part of Cuttack District. The District Police Headquarter is in Jagatsinghpur whereas in Paradeep one Addl. Superintendent of Police is stationed. Another Addl. Superintendent of Police has been posted in IUCAW Unit Jagatsinghpur where two Ds.S.Ps and two Inspectors are posted to investigate child and Women related offences. The District has 15 Police Stations at present. The Reserve Police force i.e. Armed Police Reserve stays in Punanga where Reserve Police Line is situated. Punanga is 05 Kilometers away from Jagatsinghpur town.
    • Like other District Police, Jagatsinghpur District Police is also entrusted with the responsibility of maintaining law and order in the district , traffic management, crime prevention and detection; and coordinating various citizen-centric services for the citizens of Jagatsinghpur district.

 Jagatsinghpur District #1.Jagatsinghpur District is one of the thirty districts of Odisha in the eastern coast of India. It became a new district on 1 April 1993 being separated from Cuttack district. It lies between 860 3’ E to 860 45’ East longitude and between 19⁰58' to 20⁰23' north latitude. Its ancient name was Hariharapur.
